Here We Go Again

Like a lot of people I got burned by Handsome Boy Modelling School. After being left salivating like Oprah Winfrey in front of pie by tunes like The Truth and Sunshine I mistakenly believed that multi guest-DJ duo-superfest-project albums were the future. After all that first U.N.K.L.E. album is still immense. However like many relationships that early promise fizzled out leaving you destitute and alone. They got sloppy (H.B.M.S's followup White People) or sloppy (James Lavelle letting DJ Shadow fuck off) and you moved on to more seductive, less experimental partners. However, like a horny man going back to his ex for that one last shaming act of desperate and regretful intercourse I'm back again feeding at the seemingly seductive trough of mass hip-hop collaboration. A mass of stars legendary, contemporary and promising? Check. Two DJs come producers binding the whole project together? Check. My favourite song of 2009 is already N.A.S.A.'s (they be Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon) Gifted which features Kanye West, Lykke Li and Santogold . Damn you. When will I learn?

That Girl & Foolproof

It is dark. A girl in her mid twenties enters the living room swinging open the door with an unintended force. Her hair is dark. She is slim, pretty and dressed for a night out. She is holding a small, weighty plastic bag. She stumbles a small way in to the room and turns on the light. After surveying the room absentmindedly she drops the bag, spins losing her balance as she goes and stumbles out slamming the door behind her.

After a while the door opens again. A man, also in his mid twenties, strides in, shuts the door behind him and heads straight to one of the sofas where he sits down, rests his head on its arm, forces himself into the corner and shuts his eyes. He decided this would be his course of action some time ago.
